Differences and Simularities between TV's and computers

Differences and similarities between TV’s and computers
By: Dean Geyer

Have you ever thought that computers and TV’s have a lot alike, and have you ever thought about what stuff about them makes them look alike. Actually there are many ways that make them different too. Some of the stuff that makes them different is stuff that you may not have even thought of.

Some of the similarities between them involve stuff like, being able to change the screen brightness on them, or some channels and websites can be inappropriate for children under 18 years of age. There can be other similarities as well. You can carry them both around, which tells you that they are both portable. They can also affect how much fresh air that people get. The person playing the on the computer or watching TV, will have a big lack of fresh air because they get hook up in playing games on the computer or watch a show on TV. The computers and TVs also have some differences between them too. One of those differences could be that TVs have many different channels, as for the computer has many different links or websites. Also a TV requires a remote to access channels or anything else that you want to view. Then there is a computer which requires a mouse to access what link or website you want to view. They both cost lots of money for different accessories that are require so that you can use them. Some of the accessories that the TV requires is a remote, speakers, and well the TV itself, and other accessories that are required for use of the TV. Now the computer costs money for “again” itself alone, and the hard drive, plus the mouse, and other accessories. There’s one more difference that I should tell you about, that is the computer is used for working purposes and homework, and well the TVs not.

So now when you see a TV or computer in the same room, this time it might be more clearer on why the TV and computer are alike, or even why they are different from each other.

What do you think is different or similar between that I haven’t mentioned?

Music Through the Ages

Music Through The Ages
In our world technology is always changing, that doesn’t stop at music. There have been many changes in the way people listen to music. Technology has been a part of music ever since the early 1900’s.
In the 1900’s people started listening to music using a gramophone. Which looks kind of like a record player except it has a crank of the side which you turn to make the music play. Some of the disadvantages to the gramophone is that you could not play voices or people singing and you can only listen to a couple of songs.
Later in the mid 20th centenary a new music device came out. This was called the record player. A record player was a farley big square machine with a special needle that could be moved to allow different ‘records’ to be put in playing different songs.
The record player dominated the music playing industry but as many things the record player grew old and was over taken by tapes or cassettes. These smaller devises were similar to the VHS except they played music. They were little plastic square containers with wound film. These compact squares are played in a “boom box”. Although they are huge compared to a modern day ipod they were the first portable music player of there time.
Soon the “tape” was becoming too bulky even though it was small and was replaced by a thin disk we know as a c.d. A c.d. was played in a c.d. player and is still used today but, is being threatened by a small thin music device called an mp3 these mp3’s are always changing with more memory thin and better looking.
The mp3 is probably going to be around for a while but who knows? There could be a new device being drawn up every day. Technology is always changing.
Do you think the changes in music will effect how much people communicate with each other?

Video Games - Issues and Potential Solutions

Video games are fun. They are a wonderful pastime, and some games are even educational. However, despite the joy video games have brought to us, they may have detrimental effects on their users.
One major problem is that most video game players may lack enough physical activity. Most video games don’t make you physically active, and if one spends all or most of his/her time playing these games, and seldom does anything to keep himself/herself physically active, they may end up having diseases such as heart disease. There are some solutions to this problem, however. One can limit the time he/she plays on video games. Then they can spend their extra time being physically active. Another solution would be to create more games that either encourages one to be physically active or even makes one physically active. Examples of games that make one physically active are Dance Dance Revolution and Wii Sports. If one utilizes the solutions listed, it will be much less for them to develop diseases like heart disease.
Lack of physical activity isn’t the only major issue of video games. There is also the dreadful dilemma of violence and other bad messages being sent to a video game’s user through video games. Some video games may encourage one to be violent or to break the law in other ways. This is not good, because what the world needs is peaceful, law-abiding citizens, not violent outlaws trying to promote anarchy. However, there are wonderful ways to solve this issue. The best way is an exceedingly simple solution: if a video game is so violent or is often very unconstitutional in other ways, it must be banned. If they were banned, nobody could use them anymore. Maybe the Members of Parliament should consider this.
There are some other problems of video games, but the two I mentioned are probably the vilest of all the issues. However, all of these degrading dilemmas wouldn’t be so puzzling anymore if we all commenced contemplating on all the possible ways to get around these problems.

Question: Do you think banning a video game that encourages one to break the law is a good idea?

The First 7 Years of Humans in Outer Space

The beginning of human space exploration was a mix of accidents, discovery, and technology improvement. On April 12, 1961 Cosmonaut Yuri Garagin became the first human to go into outer space. Just a month latter, Alan Shepperd became the first human to orbit the earth, by going on a fifteen minute sud-orbital flight. But on August 6, 1961, this record was bet when Titov was the first to spend an entire day in space. Then, on May 15, 1963 Copper pilots were in space for the longest time ever, spending 36 hours outside the earth’s atmosphere. Shortly after, on June 14, 1963 an endurance record of spending five days in space was set. Just two days later, the first woman made here entry into space but on October 12, 1924 the first space crew ever, all suffered from space sickness.
Naturally, as time progressed so did technology. On March 18, 1965, Econov became the first astronaut to walk in Outer space. Space technology continued to progress rapidly for on March 23, 1965, the first computer was brought into outer space. This computer was used for guidance. A year latter, even more advancements had been made because on March 16, 1965 the first performance of a spaceship docking with another spaceship, while in space, was carried out. By November 11, 1966 space exploration had expanded to outside the shuttle. Adrian preformed simple tasks directly in outer space on this day.
Consequently it wasn’t until almost a year later, on October 11, 1968 that they were able to receive live television images from Space. By the end
of the first seven years of human’s in space, on December 21, 1968, they put the most powerful rocket ever made into use.
Curiosity and improvement in technology has lead to learning about the outer world and as scientists discover more, the space industry will expand. As a result, the first seven years of humans in outer space was an adventure that was built on each time another person escaped the world’s atmosphere.

Question: Do you think human’s interest in outer space will
continue to expand as we learn more about space? If so, what do you think the next steps to space exploration will be?

how tv's have canged over time (!steph_rox! post)

How TV’s have changed over time

There have been many changes in technology but I am going to talk about how TV’S have changed over time. I am not talking about the shows on TV’S I mean the TV it’s self.

The first big thing was not even a television it was a radio but there was still shows on you just herd you could not see anyone acting out a roll. They were all different sizes the speakers went all around the box you could also listen to music. The radio was not that expensive only in the beginning but they changed the price so the more people would bye them.
Then about a decade latter they came out with something even better then radio at that time it was a small box, there were show’s just like the radio but you could see and hear what was going on. the picture was blurry and the colour was black and white just like pictures. At the time that did not matter people thought this was amazing, the problem was they were also very expensive.
Latter on about 40 years after the first television something bigger happed. There was colour, the newest TV’s hade colour they were medium sized and there was no black and white the picture was still blurry but there was colour the people at the time called it the turn of the century. The change in technology was huge that why they called it the tern of the century.

Now the TV’s are very big and the picture colour and sound is great because there is something called HD TV. HD is on of the biggest technology change of this century a lot of people get a wide screen TV to go with it. So you can see the changes in TV technology are very big.

do you think that if the tv's became more advansted kids would sepend more time on them?

The movement of the i-pod

The Movement of the I-pod
By Michelle Stevenson 7-2

Did you ever wonder what was the very first musical transformation was? Well did you know that it all started with the gramophone?
In its time, almost everyone had one. The gramophone is a machine where you have a pick that goes from the edge of the disk (these disks are 4 xs larger than a regular DVD disk)
to the middle, where in-between the middle and the edge the pick moves very slowly playing music that is on the disk. After the gramophone the “old fashioned” radios came out. These radios were mostly in the houses and then they moved into the car. Now, in some houses, the radios are built into things like coffee makers, microwaves, refrigerators, ect!The radio soon became portable, which is where the CD player comesn. The CD player became a lot more popular because the CDs became more portable and in most CD players, they had the radio combined into it, so people could switch it from/ to whenever they would like. The CD player was mostly called the Boom box because people were so used to the name boom box (big portable CD player) that whenever people in that time would say CD player they preferred to call it the boom box. You are probably wondering “then how did the name CD player catch on?” well it took time, but CD player caught on. A while later, a lot more people were attracted to the internet and instead of buying CDs, they started to download their songs to their mp3 players. Most mp3 players ran on batteries and they also had a radio in it. The portable CD player and the mp3 player lasted awhile, until what we have now, the i-pod came out. The I-Pod became very famous and almost everyone had to have one. People preferred the iPod over most of the other musical things because they were rechargeable and very expensive so if you had one, you would be the “popular” kind of people. Nowadays, the i-Pod company apple made some iPod improvements where there are video, games, the internet and so much more. Through the years, music has changed slowly but a lot of technology has been put into it.
Do you think the i-pod is becoming too technologic?

How the Computer Changed Over Time by:Max Miller

The Computer has changed mankind massively over the past 20 years. The Computer can do all sorts of things like E-mail, Internet, listen to music, play Videogames either on the Internet or a CD-Rom, doing your homework, answering your questions, the computer is at your service.

The Computer was invented in the 1940’s but it was only used for data use only. In the 1970’s the Computer was not only smaller but it held more memory but it still could’nt be used for public. The Computer from the 1980’s to now was a big success to companies like Apple, Sony , Dell, and IBM.

The Computer has been a big part of peoples lives because people tend to be addicted to the computer even if it’s playing games or shopping. SO Whether its Emailing, MSN, Or Playing Games you, Yourself probably go's on the computer a lot.

Today the 2 major computer comapnies are Microsoft and Apple.Microsoft is owned by one of the richest person in the world,Bill Gates and Apple is owned by Steve Jobs.
Computers are really mechanical and designed to be on for 5 days or more(but don't try it at home) and take a long time to build, since all the chips and bytes you have to put in.
So what are you going to do tonight? Probably go on the Computer(thats what Im guessing)?
Question:Why do you think the Computer is really addictive?

Racing Boats vs. Everyday Boats

Now I know you all know what boats are. You probably already know that there are two main categories that you can classify boats under: Racing Boats and everyday boats. In this article I will go over the similarities of the two boats as well as the differences and how they affect each boat.
Some similarities are:
They both float, they both need gas to run, they are both very fun to use and all boats are built to last a long time, even though the racing boat has a high risk of crashing.
The differences are:
The racing boat has a larger engine than the everyday boat which means that they will go faster. The everyday boat has an outboard motor (the motor is outside of the boat) whereas the racing boat has an inboard motor(the motor is inside the boat). The racing boat can only fit 2 people, but the everyday boat can fit up to 10 people at the same time. Everyday boats tend to be a lot safer because the are never traveling over 200 mph.
The racing boat and the everyday boat have their similarities and their differences. They can both be a lot of fun in different ways.

Do you think that today’s racing boats will be tomorrow’s everyday boats? Why or why not
?

Pianos versus Keyboards

By: Courteney Baxter Class: 72

Pianos and keyboards are very much the same but different at the same time. Some similarities are they both have keys to go up and down the different types of scales, triads and play songs. They both have black and white keys as well.

Unlike keyboards, pianos have three peddles that will makes different pitches, while in comparison keyboards have one peddle at the most, the piano has 52 and the keyboard only has around 35. Also pianos have different ranges for volume unlike keyboards where you have to use the volume control.

Keyboards have buttons on the top to make different sounds like birds chirping or built in beats and sometimes even songs that you can practice by it showing you what keys your supposed to be on and then you press it and you get a score on how well you did, on the other hand pianos do not have any buttons on the top. Keyboards you can take with you because its pack able compared to pianos you keep in one place Most people use pianos for classical music unlike keyboards where there used for any type of music except for classical unless your practicing.

After comparing them I would say they are both great, it just depends on what you are doing (classical or not classical.) If you travel a lot like in a rock band a lot I would use a keyboard but if you just stay in one area (except for concerts where they supply the pianos) go with a piano.

Question: In your opinion, what one would you say is the best? Why?

How ipods effect kids lives
By: Jennifer Wilson

There are many effects that ipods have on kids’ lives. Some of the effects are negative and some are positive. Some of the effects include less physical activity, less social interaction with others, and there is the ability to do more on the ipods. There are also some ipod classes at some schools which lets the students put their homework or lesson plans onto the ipods so that they can access them at home.

Ipods were invented and made by a company called apple. The company had no idea how popular the ipods were going to be. The popularity of ipods has escalated from the year 2005 which was known as the year of the ipod, up until now.

Apple has also made a lot of different types of ipods such as the ipod shuffle, nano, video, and touch. There are also different sizes, capacities, and colours that you can get your ipod in. You can get an ipod in silver, blue, pink, black, etc. As well as the different colours you can also get different capacities such as 2 GB, 4 GB, 8 GB, 10 GB, 12 GB, etc. The apple companies’ latest invention is the iphone which is a combination of the ipod touch and a cell phone.

As a result, I think that ipods can be very useful and can have positive effects on children’s lives, but they can also have negative effects. Therefore ipods are an okay type of technology for kids to have because if the children use the ipods responsibly and reasonably ipods can be very useful.

Question: Do you think that young children should be exposed to ipods and other electronics. Why or why not?

Road Bikes vs. Mountain Bikes

Road bikes and Mountain bikes are two great types of bikes but are for totally different situations. Like the names say road bikes are for riding on the road and Mountain bikes are for biking on trails and threw forests. Mountain bikes are also occasionally used for dirt jumping. Both types of bikes are also very popular models with lots of buyers; they are the two most popular types of bikes.

2008 Kona Stinky Air Mountain Bike.

2008 Trek Road Bike

These two different types of bikes have many differences and similarities; here are some of the differences. first of all road bikes have thin, sleek tires to cut down on the friction on the road, in comparison mountain bikes have thicker wheels with grip on them to increase the friction and help climb hills and stopping in slick conditions. The mountain bike unlike the road bike has suspension for going over bumps or to soften the landing if you go off of a jump. On the other hand road bikes don’t need suspension because they are built for speed. By contrast mountain bikes have hydraulic disc breaks that give plenty of stopping power but road bikes brakes are easier to regulate but do not have as much stopping power. These are only a few of the many differences between road bikes and mountain.

As I mentioned above these two types of bikes also have some similarities. The main two are that they are a great form of transportation and exercise. The other is an obvious one, they are both used all over the world for recreation and races. This means they are two very popular models of bikes. Those are the big similarities between these two types of bike.

That pretty much summarizes the differences and similarities of road bikes and mountain bikes. I covered the wheels, suspension, what they are meant for, breaking systems, and some advantages for each type of bike. That should be everything you need to know about road bikes and mountain bikes incase you would like to purchase one or for the next time you go riding.

Question:

Which of these two types of bikes do you think suits you better and why?

Differences Between Movies

By: Angelica Castellano

Do you ever remember your parents talking about how lucky we are to have color TV with all the advances in technology? Well your parents were right there are many differences in technology, movies and TV.

Back in the forties there was black and white poor sound and color quality the special effects were dull lifeless grey and unrealistic. Unlike today the advances are amazing there’s color amazing sound and picture quality, vibrant energetic and realistic special effects as well as High Definition (HD) movies digital and 3-D picture films.

On the other hand there are some things that movies from the forties and movies today have in common like the are both types of cinematology they both has special effects and both movies could be aired over TV screens or in movie theatres.

The movies made back in the forties may not have been made with good quality but a lot of elderly people still enjoy watching them but younger generations enjoy the 3-D and amazing special effects that make the movies more lifelike and exciting for people to watch.

Question: In your opinion, do you think that movies have had an impact on peoples lives? Why or Why Not?

Space Shutlles

Space ships or space shuttles some people call them Challenger STS.
Space Shuttles are improver every year, but sometimes every couple of
Year.

In 196o they where testing the challenger for the first mission to the moon, but turned out that the rocket wasn’t strong enough to fly in orbit, so they improved it by using a booster. Then they added the pilot self flight thing for the pilot to get some rest because some space mission goes up to way more than 24h, they also added a sleeping bag.

Later that year they added power gliding flight which is in the air craft they use to make the landing a little bit smoother. In the 1990’s they added the Chandra X-Ray observatory which is a part of the shuttle used to taking picture when in space. In year 2000 NASA took a series of four shuttle flight, but NASA still tried to focus on transportation of ISS parts to orbit and installation at the space station.

In my opinion improving space shuttles is really great to me because every couple of years they add cool stuff to it (booster, Chandra X-Ray observatory, transportation of the ISS) I finds these stuff are cool to learn.

Question: What do you think is the next step of improving the space shuttle?

History of Sony

Sony was firstly made in Japan by Masaru Ibuka. After WWII, he made a radio with a bomb-out buliding in Tokyo. Masaru joined a company called Tokyo Tsushin Kogy K.K. It means Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation made in 1949. In TTEC (Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation), they made a transistor radio TR-63 model. So that how Sony was made and knwon in the world. In end od 1968 5,000,000 transistor was selled in United States, Canada, EU and Russia. Japan's income was $400 billion! In earlier generation of tube radio consoles, but was driven by distinctly new American phenomenom.

My final is Sony was a famous company I found in the internet it has more income in 1953 so thats why I say Sony is a famous brand.

Here are few information about Sony.

Company located: Ginza, Tokyo
Company owner: Masaru Ibuka

My Dream Vehicle: A Ford vs BMW

My Dream Vehicle: A Ford F150 or a BMW?

My purpose is to know what kind of vehicle to buy when I have enough money to buy my first car and to find a way to analyze my car choice. I have chosen to compare a Ford F150 to a BMW.
I love cars. One reason that I love the F-150 is because it is so versatile. It can pull trailers, All Terrain Vehicles and dirt bikes. The cab of the F-150 is one of the most luxurious parts of this vehicle. It has lots of foot room to stretch out and relax in.

On the other hand the BMW is a sports car and it was built to be speedy and luxurious. I can go from zero to one hundred in seconds. That is why they are so much money but it can be argued that it is worth it because this vehicle has been proven to last longer.

After careful consideration I guess that I would choose the F-150 because it is more versatile and fits the lifestyle that I hope to have. If you just got your driver's licence and you made enough money to get a BMW or an F-150, as your car, what would you choose?

P.S. Remember the cost of gas is constantly rising in price.

History on Film

Movies have around since the 16th century. Firstly, it all started with William Shakespeare and the whole bit. Secondly, in the 20’s the first real movies came out. To put it bluntly, they sucked! No talking, grainy picture, and the person who was playing the movie acted as a narrator.

Through the decades, it carried on the same with little progress. Until the golden 70’s! Colored movies, actual talking, horrible story line but it all worked out for the best. Through the 70’s as well more and more animated features came out like: Tom and Jerry, Scooby Doo, The Bugs Bunny and Tweety show, Woody Woodpecker, Super friends, Batman, Speed Racer, Yogi Bear, The Incredible Hulk, Spider man, and Rocket Robin Hood. That is a list of the many animated features that got made into movies.

Then everything was smooth sailing from there. Through the 80’s and 90’s a new type of film making was presented. Computer Animation! Longer car chases, and way better dialogue. And it all started with Steven Speilbergs Jurassic Park and George Lucas’ Star Wars!

Things haven’t really changed. NOT!!! Movies completely animated except for the people (e.g. Speed Racer).Movies shot with video cameras (e.g. Cloverfield). Movies with plots so good your hanging on every single word until it ends up that that the main character dies (e.g. Saving Private Ryan). Personelly I think it's headed for the best! So what if it costs alot of money it going to be worth it in the end!! Question- Do you think that movies are headed for the best or the worst? Why or why not?

CELLPHONES
GOOD OR BAD BY: Mitchell. Wilson
Problem Solution

Over the past years I have heard that cell phones can be bad and good so I was not sure so I did some research . And found out that there are a lot of students that use or have cell phones and they get in trouble for having the. But what some people don’t understand is that they also solve problems like if you are going some ware with your friends and you can’t tell your parents ware you are they start to worry and you get in trouble for not phoning them .If some people say they are good and bad they are right .

Classrooms: My friends always talk about kids texting in class and not paying attention.
It can also ruin grads from an 80% to an 50% . An solution for this is to ask kids to turn of cellphones in class or have them lift in lockers and only used for emergences .

Brain damaged: An another big part of cell phones . I have recently heard that the highway behind my house they put a big building and they had to take it down one because they did not have permission to put it up .And there was a lot of radiatin coming of it from cell phones the solution to this is will they have sort of ready solved it but they should put an new law out saying that cell phones arte not aloud on main rods or highways.

Textwords: I have also heard that kids are using words like u instead of you I have done it to . I think that text words will soon take over regular writing . The answer to this is only let kids go on msn for a few minutes and no more texting .

As a result to this is that cell phones are good and bad but there is an consequence . You have to take care of them because if you don’t . It might get taken away and if you don’t have it when you need it is your fault . Therefore you wel be lie the boy who called wolf . I hope you have
learned a bet about cell phones.
if you can give me an answer why they are bad i will be happy to answer it in way that they are bad and good

In 2004 the mustang gt model was a chunky car and had small wiper blades. the head lights were also bad so it wasn ideal for driving at night. the mustang had an eight cylinder engine and usually came in convertible.

In 2005 the mustang was still pretty chunky and usually came with a different color hood usually black and came with a side window cage for show. this model also had a eight cylinder engine

in 2006 the mustang got slimmed down got better head lights and wiper blades, but the mustang only got a seven cylinder engine..

why do you think they put better lights and wiper blades in???

History of Computers

Computers have changed a lot over time and only became what we use now recently. They were originally very slow but became more advanced over time.
About 60 years ago computers were very rare, very big, and very basic. They were designed for one task and did it slowly.

In the 1980’s the PC was invented. It was still not anything like computers today. To open programs you had to type commands.previous image
Then, in the 1990’s the desktop was invented and computers began to look like they do now. The graphics were nothing special but they could do so many more things.

Recently computers have gotten very advanced and can do many things. The graphics are very good and the computer is convenient and easy to use.

HP laptop

Now almost anything can be found on the internet so it makes things like libraries almost useless.Without modern computers I think our lives would be very different. How would your life change if you had to use really old computers?

Video Games

One of the first game consoles was Pong. It was an arcade game and a home console game, the arcade version is like a pin ball game except it was a screen. It did the same thing as the home console just bigger, the home console game is really big compared to the stuff that we have now.

Next came Nintendo 64 with a controller, the controllers were simple but they worked. The controllers had d-pads (a d pad is a direction pad) and a few other buttons like A, B, R, and L (R=right L=left). The play station 1 came out next with a joystick which did the same thing as a d-pad but more complex. The play station 1 also has better picture because they saw how fuzzy Nintendo 64 was so they tried to make it better and it worked.

Gameboy Colour
After that came Game boy Colour which was most likely the first handheld portable system, it didn’t have the greatest screen resolution but it was fairly small. It ran off double A batteries but they didn’t last very long. Then shortly after that they came out with the Game Boy Advanced which was like the Game Boy Colour but the upgraded version like better picture ad a better quality system (harder plastic ect.). The Play station 2 is very well known for its long lastingness. I have had my Play Station 2 for 5 years and still running great. They keep on making games for this system because so many people liked it. Play Station 2 is much better then Play Station 1 because of the time and effort they put into it.

Next was the Nintendo DS with a cool “duel screen” and “touch pad” (DS= dual screen). The dual screen can make 1 big screen, it is really quite cool, and the touch pad comes with a pen which you can use with the touch pad. They have made 2 Nintendo DS’s, the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo DS Lite. I prefer the DS light because it is much lighter, smaller, has a better brighter screen and comes in different colours. The games are exactly the same for both systems. They also have Wi-Fi which you can connect to other players wirelessly or on the internet.

Shortly
after that they came out with the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 has very good graphics and HD. The Xbox 360 is more for older people because most of the games are rated T but that have a lot of E games. Then they came out with PS3, it is like the Xbox 360 they just keep on getting better. The PS3 has great graphics but they find that they are overheating a lot. Then comes the Nintendo Wii which has wireless controllers and, is almost virtual reality. It is the top of the line stuff right now, and great I love it, it is a lot of fun and the whole family can play it.

Sony Playstation 3

The list of these video games shows how they get better over time and what they do to make them better, it is going to be hard to make them better then they are now but they will find a way just like they did with all of the other video games. In my opinion the next video game is going to be amazing because of how good they are now with wireless, online and a whole bunch more.

Cellphones and MP3s-Compare and Contrast

Cellphones and MP3s
<--MP3

Compare and Contrast

Over the years, people have created many electronic handheld devices. Two of the most common handheld devices are the cellphone and the MP3. These two devices are very similar in appearance and abilities but are also different. In his article, I will go over the similarities and the differences of the two devices.

The cellphone and the MP3 have very similar appearances. Cellphones have started losing their flip-up feature and now most of them use touch screen or buttons. MP3s have the very similar appearances except for the small ones. Both devices are pocket-sized but fragile so usually they need cases. The cellphone and the MP3 also have similar features. The cellphone can also play music and videos. Lots of MP3s have microphones and can record sound. Both of them can play games but very few MP3s have Internet and a camera.

However, there are also differences between the two. The MP3 will usually have a bigger memory for music and videos but on the other hand, the cellphone has speakers to ring but you need headphones to listen to MP3s. Cellphones have text messaging but MP3s are usually smaller than cellphones. Cellphones have plans and you must pay monthly but you just pay once for an MP3.

In conclusion, the main difference of the two devices is the purpose. The cellphone was made so you could talk and message to other people who are not close to you. The MP3 was made to entertain you with music and video. Although these two devices are similar, the purpose will keep these two devices from merging together.
Question: Would you like it if all the electronic devices were handheld? Why or why not?

Music Players

Music players
By Shaun Collins 72

Gramophones, cd’s, records, mp3’s and ipods. What do they all have in common? They all play music. They all have different ways of playing music and music players have changed over time.
First, in 1901, they came out with the gramophone. The nick name is the Grammy. If you have ever seen the trophy for the Grammy awards, that is what it looks like. It is kind of like a record player.
Witch brings me to the
next music player, the record player. The record was invented in the mid 20th century. A record looks like a big, black cd.

Soon after, the tape player was invented. It is like a small version of the VCR, but does not play movies, it plays music.
Around 2000, cd’s were invented. It is a smaller version of the record. The walk men and mini disk are portable cd players with head phones, not speakers.
Just like the walk men, the mp3 and I pod have head phones as well.
Music players have
changed a lot. I wonder what they will invent next. I think they will come out with a smaller and more potable player.
Q. what do you think they will invent next?

Eco friendly vs. Gas Cars

Eco-friendly and gas cars are two great ways to transport
from one place to another but one is a lot more efficient than the other, and better for the environment. This car would be known as an eco-friendly vehicle. This type of vehicle will cut down the amount of pollution that the normal leading gas cars pollute every second. Gas cars on the other hand are the more pollutant type of car and not as easy on the environment. Both cars are great and this is the topic I will be talking about today.

Eco Friendly Car

2008 Lincoln Navigator
(Gas Car)

Eco-friendly cars are very helpful to the environment, by not polluting even close, to how much gas cars do. The great type of fuel that the eco cars use is normally run off of water or electric power. This type of fuel does not pollute the environment at all. Unfortunately, gas cars are a lot more popular than the eco-friendly cars. The reason for this, is that the eco-friendly cars have not been out even close to as long as the gas cars have. The eco-friendly cars are very expensive and normally over $50,000. Unlike the eco-friendly car, the gas cars are fairly cheap, if you get the average one. The reason for the eco-friendly car being so expensive is for the advanced parts that they use, so it will be able to run off an environment friendly fuel. By contrast, the eco-friendly car is a better way to transport from one place to another.

These two cars may seem like they have no similarities, they actually do. As you know, most cars can only go for a certain amount, which is a similarity between these two vehicles. Another way these two vehicles are similar is that they both run off of a type of fuel and can carry very heavy weight, as well as always having a type of airbag, to save you if you get into a crash. By comparison, I think that the eco-friendly car is better for the whole world.

I have told you the similarities and differences of a gas and eco-friendly car, the good and the bad. The type of car I think would be better for you and the world would be the eco-friendly. The eco-friendly does everything a gas car can, and doesn’t pollute! This is a great way to change the world and cut down on pollution.

Which car do you think is better for the world? Why do you think this?

The Differences Between Mac And PC

The Differences Between Mac And PC

By: Amy Mair-Jones 72

Could you imagine a world without computers, with out technology. Computers need us, and we need them badly. But in this article I am going to talk about the differences and simarilities between the Mac and PC, the computers we need badly.

The simarilities between the Mac and PC is that they are both computer programs, with superior technology compared to other programs. The computer systems are also internationally known, and are popular.

Differences for Mac against the PC is that it has more difficult programming, and overall functions. On the other hand it is better suited for graphics and web design, but it has more costly repairs.

The PC, is a standard computer with okay, graphic and web design. Unlike the Mac, the PC has less costly repairs, and is easier to use. It is a very popular for a standard computer.

These computers, are both very similar, but very different at the same time. I prefer, the PC because it is easy to use, but it has great programs with a lot of memory also on it.

Question: Which one do you prefer as a computer? Why?

The Evolution of Cell Phones

Hard-wired, big, bulky and one big antenna. The cell phones from thirty years ago and the cell phones we have today are much, much different and have definitely improved over a period of time.
First we had that huge $ 2000 hunk of plastic that was hard wired into the car. Then they come up with the flip-phone-sophisticated looking, yet still big and a bit of a pain when you’re driving in the car and trying to answer the phone at the same time. Thirdly, they discover that we can get a signal without that bothersome antenna, so off it comes. Next we decide that the cell phones need a new look so the creators come up with some different styles. Now we have the flip phone, the razor, the slide phone and the very first original. After everyone decided the “look” was okay they thought we needed some new technology.

Now cell phones are not only used for communication, but people can also use cell phones to listen to music, go on the internet and take pictures. Not only has the technology changed, but also the cost has differed. The first cell phone was about $2000 and now you can get them for about $20 - $200. Also you can get some cell phones for free if you buy a certain plan.

Overall, I think the evolution of cell phones have made quite a drastic change in technology and with the people who use them.

Question: If cell phones did not improve from the very first one, do you think people would still use them as much?

Computers and how they have changed over time

When computers first started off they were about the size of a living room. But now the computer can come in a size that is the size of a book. It was first invented by Joseph Lohan in 1954 his idea came to him when he was looking through his library and he though “What if we just had a machine to look it up for us?” so in the next couple of years he developed his machine and called it the computer Latin for machine.

But he had a problem he couldn’t figure out how to get information off it but then 6 years later Debra martin made up the internet connecting everyone together. Then in 1999 a famous scientist came up with the laptop which was portable but overall the computer has had many different improvements.

How has computers changed your life?

The Evolution of MP3 Players

The modern MP3 Players has come a very long way. From being box-sized contraption to being a small hand-held device. Through the years, this audio entertainment device has revolutionized the way we listen.

The first ever portable audio device (PAD) was created by Saelten Information Systems in the year 1997. This PAD was named the MPMan.

Second
, through the year 1998, there were two major advances, both being launched by Saelten. In September, the Rio PMP was introduced. Roughly the dimensions of a deck of cards the Rio was black with a small LCD screen. It had buttons for skipping tracks forward or backwards, repeat, random play, and four preset equalizer settings. It could play MP2 and MP3 format audio files, and had support for various MP3 bit-rates.

Third
, in November 1998, Compaq made the very first hard-drive based PAD. This version offered the same controls and features as the Rio but in a sleeker, more sophisticated, and lighter design.

Then
in 1999, HanGo Electronics and Compaq launched to the public the Personal Jukebox (also known as PJB-100). It was the first commercially sold hard disk digital audio player. The original design was released by Compaq but licensed the design to HanGo.

Finally Apple, SanDisk, Sony, and many other major companies came up with the sleekest, most compatible design for someone on the go. I-Pod started the generation idea. They currently hold 5 generations. Their designs allow features such as music, videos, the Net, pictures, and more.

In conclusion, the evolution of the modern MP3 Player has dramatically changed our lives and the way we listen. As you can see, it has definitely come a long way.

Question: In your opinion has the evolution of MP3 players dramatically changed lives? Has it changed yours? If so, how?

Let's Get Started

Welcome Class 72!

We will be using this blog to discuss various issues concerning technology in our lives.

You will be responsible for:

1. Writing one article about a technology issue, using any one of the four organizational patterns that we have learned about in class. Your article must contain your conclusions about this issue. You also need to ask either an inferential or evaluative question that your classmates may respond to. You will use the Post feature to add your article to the blog.

2. Responding to at least two of your classmate’s articles using the Better Answers format. You will use the Comment tab at the end of an article to respond to your classmates' questions.

Here is my article and my question that you may respond to. I have used the Problem/Solution organizational pattern.

As our world changes due to rapid advancements in technology, our students’ needs are also changing. Never before has there been a group of students who are able to access unbelievable amounts of information and mass media just by pushing a few buttons. With the technology skills that most students have, there is a great opportunity to use technology in teaching in order to make learning more interesting and interactive. However, sometimes using technology can cause big problems.

One of the problems that teachers encounter is not knowing all that much about technology. In teaching with it, they may find themselves in a situation where there is a good chance that students know more about the technology that is being used than they do. This requires a change in the traditional role of the teacher. It is a movement from expert to facilitator or leader, and a shift that may involve an uncomfortable loss of control. From my perspective, the solution is to be honest with students and tell them exactly what is going on. Also, there are many technology related inservices that teachers can attend to learn more.

Related to the issue of not being an expert, there is the issue of potential ‘landmines’ that may arise in the course of learning a new way of teaching. With the traditional way of teaching, most teachers figure out fairly quickly what catastrophic issues may arise. However, with something new, they never know exactly what may arise. One thing that I learned this morning was that even with the filters and blocks that we have on our system at school, it is possible to access blogs with inappropriate content. The solution that I put in place this morning was to tell students what was inappropriate content, and to provide the message that my expectation is that they would stay away from it at all times. I learned that I will have to deal with the ‘landmines’ as they arise.

Lastly, and perhaps the worst problem that teachers encounter using technology at school is the availability of it. Our server is so slow and dated that it often makes working with technology cumbersome. Another issue is the fact that there is not enough equipment. The computer lab at our school is used regularly, and it can be very difficult to book it on short notice. One way around this is to plan ahead. Another way is to allocate fundraising money toward improving technology in the school. We could work toward providing a traveling mini lab (laptops on a cart that could be booked out to classes) with wireless networking provided.

These are just a few of the problems that teachers may encounter upon trying to incorporate more technology into their programs. However, as technology has evolved, I don’t think that there is much choice, if we are to meet the needs of our students and keep them engaged in learning.

Question: If every student had a laptop and wireless internet access, do you think that student learning would increase? Why or why not?
